Gotta face it - If I want a shirt to block UV rays it's not going to breathe like loosely woven cotton. This shirt compensates very well, though, with ventilation. It's awesome. There are strips of mesh venting that run up the sides of the shirt and continue around and down the insides of the sleeves. It's the best ventilated shirt I've seen yet. I was amazed when I discovered the venting because I couldn't see it until I looked closely. Best uses: Hot & dry, or cool weather regardless of humidity. It's my 2nd favorite outdoor shirt, but only because it's 100% nylon instead of the 70% nylon/30% poly of my other ExOfficios. The difference is very minor, though. Plus, for looks and fit the Reef Runner wins hands down.

I have three of these and they're my favorite outdoor and travel shirt. They dry quickly, are made extremely sturdily, and don't wrinkle much. The zip pockets are useful for holding things without worrying about losing them - after a recent kayak trip, my shirt was dry but my shorts weren't. When I took my wallet and phone out of the dry bag, I was able to put them in the shirt pockets securely until my shorts dried.
The loop by the left pocket is for holding sunglasses. As long as they aren't wire framed, they'll be secure and easy to take on and off. There's a piece of fabric inside the sleeves that buttons them up into short sleeves above the elbow for warm weather, and the shirt is warm enough at night with the sleeves rolled down. The mesh venting runs along the whole side and arm, and complements the zip-out underarm vents on rain shells.
I'm impressed with the construction quality. The buttons are large and sewn on strongly. There are hardly any loose threads and most seams are double stitched. The fabric is a fine ripstop that's hardly noticeable. All together, this is a much better made shirt than anything else I've found anywhere near the price.
I had to exchange a different ExOfficio product and they were extremely responsive and easy to deal with. Highly recommended.
One issue: the white shirt is somewhat transparent except around the pockets, which looks strange, and this isn't the type of shirt you wear an undershirt with.

Like all other ExOfficio products, this is another great shirt.
I got some bad advice from the reviews and ordered a Large. The size if anything runs a bit large (NOT SMALL) so if you're a medium, order a medium.
The material is excellent and very light. Perfect for sailing or just a summer day.
I find I can even get away with wearing this to a fancy place as they're sufficiently stylish shirts.
